Taking Action Through Deliberate Content Curation

As our University’s website prioritizes enrollment, retaining students and engaging alumni, we’ve created compelling digital content that emphasizes a journey with clear next steps, a seamless enrollment path and clarity of offerings. We’re able to accomplish these particular goals by implementing our Content Page template which embodies the shift from University-focused “here’s what we want you to know” to student-focused “here’s what I need to know.”

Photography

While this template requires less photography than Universal Pages, content editors should continue choosing imagery that reflects our diverse community of students, faculty and staff. Also, as these pages reflect more logistics than experiences, this is an opportunity to include graphics and illustrations alongside posed photography.

PORTRAITS: SHARING OUR ACHIEVEMENTS portrait

While most of our chosen photography should reflect candid moments, we use portraits when matching a headshot with a pull quote.

People are diverse and relatable and are not supposed to look like professional models. Feature a wide range of people (race, age, gender, ability, class, body type–reflecting our global, learning community.)

Headers

Unlike headers used on Universal Pages, our Content Pages are less about piquing curiosity and more about delivering immediate information. That means, if the page is about Undergraduate Programs, the header should read “Undergraduate Programs.” Informational headers should be 20-40 characters.

Body Copy

Our body copy on the Content Pages are less experienced-based and more informational, so it’s crucial we provide prospective and current students with the details they need to know about our programs, along with additional exploration opportunities. Despite the change in type of content, we continue using language reflecting our University’s values, mission, and voice and tone. Cut the adverbs, choose exact, actionable words and pick strong verbs.

Snippets

Our snippets are essential to bringing our University’s story to life and are configured to ensure responsiveness across all devices whether that’s mobile, desktop or tablet. When choosing the Universal Content Page template, include the following snippets during the content curation process:

Accordion

Heading: 15-20 characters
Expand a panel on load: 0

Callout Stats

Description: This is an optional snippet that can be added on the Universal Content Page template after hero copy. Similar to a pull quote, the large stat demands attention and is an opportunity to show our University’s relevance.

Make sure the stat is current—never use data more than two years old and never end the supporting copy with a period (.).
